Shunters Day 2010

Fancy a game of 3D chess?

Shunter Day girl enjoying a train ride

Well come along to our Shunters Day and help solve the Shunting puzzles. Get to see how all sorts of wagons are connected and moved around to form an authentic fully linked 1930/40’s train set. A large model of the shunting yard will be on hand to help work out the puzzles while our beautiful engines Millom 1742 and Swanscombe 699 will be doing the hard work. If you solve the puzzle in as few moves as possible a BRC limited edition lapel pin could be yours with an alternative prize for younger train fans.

If that wasn’t enough to be getting on with there will be locomotives in steam all day with excellent photo opportunities in the yard. The signal box is rarely open to visitors but as a special treat we are allowing visitor access. This will offer excellent views of the Centre and a fascinating insight into the workings of a railway. There will also be a chance to get up close to a working steam train with footplate visits on Beattie 30585. The gift shop and café will be open along with the second hand bookshop. Aside from being a fun day this event offers a real insight into
how steam engines function on a day to day basis set within the Centres fantastic 25 acres site.

No need to book just turn up on the day,
gates open at 10.30am
