Buckinghamshire Railway Centre: A fun day out for all the family!

Father Christmas is here!

Pre-booking is essential for our Christmas events, and
most dates are already fully-booked.
We only have availability on:
17/18th December: click here to book (please note Thomas the Tank Engine will not be here, one of our own steam locomotives will pull Father Christmas' train instead.)
Book now to avoid disappointment!
Get on the train and travel up and down the track a few times, whilst you wait as Father Christmas makes his way through the carriages giving presents to all the children!
Also included: a live children's show, badge making/colouring, refreshments for the kids and the adults, professional face painting, the chance to meet The Fat Controller and receive a certificate! All included in your ticket price.
Father Christmas arrived on Saturday 26th November and will be here until December 18th - the first three weekends with Thomas the Tank Engine, the final weekend with one of our own restored engines - and we only have availability for this final weekend. Booking is essential, and tickets are selling fast!
For more information or to book, click on Special Events above, then follow the link to 'Santa Specials' 17/18th December...
(Please note, at this time of year, the miniature railway and museum are closed due to safety reasons for visitors and staff/volunteers.)

After Christmas, we re-open for the February half term, and then we open for the rest of the season at the start of the Easter Holidays on Sunday 2nd April 2017
Our Steaming Days are every Sunday from March until the end of October... (we are open other days too, see below for more information!)

Steaming Days are from 10.30am - 5pm on Sundays. (Last admissions one-hour before closing).

On our Steaming Days you get unlimited free steam train rides on our 1/3 mile length of track! There are lots of other engines, coaches and carriages on display to see and learn about. Take a trip (£1 per person age 3+) on our 1km long, ride-on miniature steam railway (a delight for the children - but the adults love it too!) and visit our exhibition hall. We also have a beautiful glass-roofed visitor centre with more to see, including meticulously restored engines and carriages from times past. We also have a shop and cafe, selling hot and cold food, drinks and snacks, a big (free) on-site car park, four lots of toilets around the site, two footbridges (one with disabled access) and plenty of picnic areas... Come and spend the day with us!

We are next open for Steaming Days on:

3/4 December: FULLY BOOKED

10/11th December: FULLY BOOKED

17/18th December: See Father Christmas on a Steam Train (it's not Thomas, it's one of our own restored steam engines.)

Pre-booking is essential for Christmas and online bookings are selling fast... Click on Special Events above for more information.

After Christmas, we will re-open for Steam Train Rides for February half term:

Sunday 12th February

Wednesday 15th February

Sunday 19th February

Then, we re-open again for the main season on Sunday 2nd April 2017, when we are open every Sunday for Steam Train Rides.

We will also be open for Static Days (no train rides) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays - although we also have Steaming Days on Wednesdays during the school holidays. (See below for more information on when we are open and what to expect.)

We are closed on Mondays (except bank holidays), Fridays and Saturdays (except some Special Events - see 'Calendar' for more information)

Scroll down to find out more about when we are open, and read about our different types of Open Day...

Steaming Days:
These are our normal, working open days - every Sunday until the end of October, and Wednesdays during the school holidays (July 13th-August 31st). On a Steaming Day, we offer unlimited free steam train rides, and everything around the site will be open - the ride-on miniature steam trains, the exhibition hall, our work sheds are usually open so you can see work in progress on engines being restored. Also, our shop will be open and the cafe will be serving hot meals, sandwiches, cake and drinks.

Special Events:
This is usually a Steam Gala or rally, when we might have, for example, visiting locomotives, traction engines or Thomas the Tank Engine. See 'Special Events' or 'Calendar' on the top options bar to see what is coming up later on this season. Special Events are held on Saturdays & Sundays, or Sundays & Bank Holiday Mondays. Everything is open and running, as on our Steaming Days (above), and on our busier days, we have another engine running offering brake van rides on the other side of the track.

Static Days:
On a Static Day, the site is open (10.30am-4pm) but no trains/rides will be running - prices are much reduced for these days. Static Days are on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the season, and on Wednesdays too, but not in the school holidays when Wednesdays are Steaming Days. There is still so much to see; you can look around all the locomotives, the exhibition hall, our glass-roofed visitor centre with steam engines on display, including a Royal Victorian dining coach. The shop is open, but our cafe is only open for self-serve drinks (hot and cold) and snacks on these days, but you are welcome to bring a picnic and use our cafe tables!

To find out what is on on a particular day, click on 'Calendar' on the top options bar, and click on that day. If you have any trouble, please call us on 01296 655720, the office is open 9am-4pm Monday-Friday, or email Thank you!

We have lots of fabulous Special Events coming up in 2017! Keep an eye on the website for more events being added.
Please note: Tesco Clubcard Days Out Vouchers are not valid for Thomas or Chrismas events. They can be used for Static Days, Steaming Days and other special events. Please call to check before travelling if unsure. Thank you!
