Access for Disabled Visitors

The Centre has excellent accessibility to most buildings and displays with well-fitted modern toilet facilities with full disabled access.  The site is level with the surfaced car park adjacent to the main entrance (disabled spaces clearly marked).

On Steaming Open Days you are invited to take a short ride in a historic railway carriage pulled by a steam locomotive.  However, entrance doors are narrow and access to carriages is not possible for wheelchair users.  To ride on the miniature railway you must be able to sit astride the small three-person carriages.

The Centre covers a 25 acre site and access to some parts involves crossing a working railway line.  This, however, can easily be achieved by means of a self-service lift and ramp system.  Our friendly staff and volunteers will be happy to provide assistance.

In the case of disabled visitors who require the assistance of an accompanying carer during their visit, the carer is admitted free of charge.
